Diotima from the Heart for Gillenmead BIS DCC; Potterdale Prodigy RBIS RDCC; Potterdale Paladium BPD

DOG JUDGE: LESLEY TOMLINSON

Midshires held their 12th Championship show on August 7th 2011. The weather forecast had been heavy rain and storms but we were blessed with a dry day right up until BIS when the heavens opened. It didn’t last however and within 10 minutes we had bright sunshine again and were able to carry on with the BPIS. My co-judge Graham Atkins and I agreed on one or two decisions, but felt that the Referee was needed on a couple of occasions, one of these resulting in the dog going BIS – Diotima From The Heart For Gildenmede. RBIS was the dog Potterdale Prodigy with Bustroc Red Red Rose going BOS. The BPIS was Fiary Angel For Ramsgrove To Domu Etny. BVIS was Ch Menander Chocolate Truffle.
Thanks to my stewards, Jacky & Nicola, the committee for making the day so enjoyable and to the Members for their votes.
I was looking for a dog that could do a day’s work coupled with elegance and beauty. Last time I judged I mentioned that I found quite a few heavy, coarse shoulders and this hasn’t changed yet. Length is a problem and I saw quite a few dogs that looked wonderful on the stance but fell apart when moving, maybe due to the lack of muscle tone on quite a few dogs. I also found that I had to forgive one or two light eyes as the dog’s construction & movement were the best in the class. Some of the dogs did have a problem with good smells in the ring and their movement was spoilt by their noses continually on the ground. But on the whole I found some absolute crackers. I haven’t been around the ring lately so it was nice to go in with fresh eyes and without any pre-conceptions.

Breaksea Bold as Brass Minor Puppy Dog Winner

Minor Puppy Dog (5:1ab)
1st Burfitt’s BALIDORN BOLD AS BRASS. Lovely brown dog in good coat for his age. Lovely bone and substance which I do like in a young dog. Good head and eye colour, well put together. Looked lovely on the stance and moved well. Was entered in the next class and didn’t come into the ring so unfortunately couldn’t challenge for BPD.
2nd Wilmotts CARBONNIE BLUE BUTTONS FOR CARBOW. Dark slate with lovely head and dark eye. Well laid shoulders, good length of back, moved well. Just preferred the depth of chest of 1 but he is only a baby so this will come later. Was very impressive for his age.
3rd Bridgers MAGNUM FORCE
4. Greenside's Megamaree All That Jazz

Potterdale Paladium Best Puppy Dog

Puppy Dog (7:2)
1st Glaysher & Lewis’s POTTERDALE PALADIUM. Lovely blue dog who took the eye on the stand. Broad head with lovely strong muzzle, good shoulder placement and plenty of bone and substance. Liked his length of back and strong hindquarters. Moved around the ring with long easy strides and was parallel in both front and back action. Should have a bright future. BPD.
2nd Marshalls KILFINAN COUNTRY BREEZE. Dark slate who looked lovely on the stance and on the move. Lovely strong head and good eye colour, well made front and strong rear quarters. Liked his length of back. Moved well but not quite as fluid as 1.

2nd Walkers THINGAMEBOB TOP NOTCH. Slate dog, a bit smaller made all round. Liked his head and expression, good front assembly, would have liked a little more length of back, well bent stifle, moved and showed well.

1st Bowdens SUBESSEN ECHOES OF POWER. Slate dog of quality. Liked his outline on the stance, good head and expression, well made front assembly, good length of back and long ribcage, liked his rear construction, moved with easy strides.
2nd Bramley & Robinsons THINGAMEBOB RUDY VALENTINO. Dark slate just between colours at the moment. Lovely head and eye colour, good dark pigment, liked his lay of shoulder, deep chest, nice length of back, strong rear. Is just coming into his adult coat and will take a while to look finished.

2nd Carters KARMELIANN STARGAZER JW. Another blue boy, slightly smaller all round but that is not a criticism. Diotima from the Heart for Gildenmead Best in Show

Open Dog (10:1)
The strongest class of the day and it was a real headache in the fact that all the dogs were of high quality.
1st Glasspools DIOTIMA FROM THE HEART FOR GILDENMEDE. Dark slate who just oozed quality. Loved his head and dark eye, good strong muzzle, lovely shoulder placement with deep chest, good length of back & ribcage, strong rear quarters with good muscle tone, in really good condition. Lovely coat of the correct texture. Totally masculine throughout with that touch of elegance. Moved with long easy strides and never faltered once. He had a proud look on the move and got better as he went. He demanded and got the CC today – his 2nd I believe. He obviously impressed later as he went on to win BIS under the referee Janet Steel.
2nd Sanchez’s INT CH FIRSTPRIZEBEARS ENFIELD. Lovely slate who I have judged as a youngster. Was very impressive on the stance and move. Strong head with nice expression, good eye colour, nice front assembly with good deep chest, liked his length of back, good strong rear which enabled him to move with drive. In excellent condition, moved with easy strides and pushed all the way.
3rd Sewells CH MALANDEX XACTLY RIGHT FOR KEMELSTOWE.
4. Felton's CH Kittistone Sea Lord
5. Thorpe's CH Claudalla Jacob Marley at Merrythorpe

andy bland

Special Open Dog (4)
1st Blands KIANDRA KASHMIR. Dark slate of lovely quality. Really liked his head and expression, good eye colour, well laid shoulders, good depth of chest, lovely length of back, well angulated rear with good muscle tone. Unfortunately he was not on his best behaviour today and wouldn’t co-operate with his handler. His movement looked so easy and effortless when he settled but he fidgeted on the stance, was sporadic in his movement and so threw away his chances in the challenge. A real pity.
2nd Richie’s KIRSTANCOURT KISS N’ TAIL. Another dark slate of lovely quality. Loved his head and dark eye, strongly made thoughout, in good condition with lovely coat of good texture. Liked his length but just preferred the overall balance of 1. Moved and showed well.
3rd TALIBEE SHINING STAR.
4. Finch's Dajue's The Basie Legend

BITCH JUDGE: GRAHAM ATKINS (SNIKKLES)

The weather forecast for the Midshires Champ Show held on Sunday August 7th 2011 was not as good as it had been in previous years. The day started cloudy and a bit cool but the sun did come out at times. We managed to complete all the classes before a heavy shower interrupted BIS but that was short lived and the final judging was completed outside by my co-judge Leslie Tomlinson and I, the referee was called in for BIS and BPIS but we agreed on the other main honours (results of the principal winners in Leslie Tomlinson notes) My thanks to my Stewards Jane & Glenn who kept the classes moving without any problems.
Dirty teeth still seem to be common place in all ages of the Bitches. Grooming was a lot better than the last time I judged no obvious knots in hidden places !some bitches carrying a bit too much weight paid the price for their extra treats at bedtime! Muscle tone varied a lot (from lack of, to soft)but not in my main winners, all the bitch’s were clean and well-presented and I was more than pleased with all my principal winners.
